Purpose
The purpose of this experiment was to test which items out of dish soap, a spoon, cotton balls and a spounge could contain and absorb a controlled oil spill the quickest and efficienly.

Hypothesis
If dish soap, a spoon, 10 cotton balls and a spounge are used to clean up an oil spill, then 90% of the oil will be contained and 80% will be contained.

Variables
Independent variables: dish soap, cotton balls, spoon, spounge
Dependant variable: how much oil is absorbed and contained
Controlled variable: The amount of crude oil, number of items used

Materials list
- 1 spounge
-10 cotton balls
-25ml of soap
- spoon

Procedure
1) put dish soap in the water
2) put spounge on the contained oil and move slowly to absorb
3) put cotton balls on the spoon, move the spoon to let the cotton balls absorb the oil
4) use spoon to collect cotton balls then place them on the surface

Discussion

In my hypothesis, i guessed that using dish soap, a spoon, 10 cotton balls and a spounge would contain 90% of the oil spill and absorb 80% of it. My hypothesis was half right as 90% of the spill was contained. The second part of my hypothesis was wrong but instead of the absorbtion rate being lower, it was higher. The four items were able to absorb 95% of the spill

There were many steps to doing this experiment and alot of reasons why i did it. This experiment was to test how to clean up an oil spill effinciantly with limited reasources. If this would be sucessful, it would give people a better understanding on how to clean oil spills with unlimited resources. The steps to doing this experiment were quite simple. Firstly we poured half a cup of dish soap(25 ml) into the oil spill. Once some of the oil was contained from soap, i put the soap over top of it and moved it around slowly to absorb the oil. After that we placed cotton balls on the spoon and moved them around slowly to absorb oil. Afterwards, we picked the cottonballs out of the water and placed them on the surface. The main variables for this was the items used(independant), how much oil was obtained(dependant) and the amount of crude oil and items used(controlled)

The outcome of the experiment was sucsess on many levels. Firstly, the absorbtion rate increased and the containment rate stayed the same. As shown in table one, the dish soap and the spoon contained 80% and 10%(90% overall) respectivly. The spounge and the 10 cotton balls contained a total of 0% proving innefective. For absorbtion, the spounge absorbed 70%, the 10 cotton balls absorbed 20% and the spoon absorbed 10% of the oil. In all, the experiment was a sucsess.

All in all, the lab proved to be a sucsess. Even though it was sucessful there would be a couple of things i would change to make this affective on a higher scale. The things I would change would be the size of the oil spill and the materials to simulate an ocean oil spill. In the testing of this lab no problems were identified

Conclusion
This experiment demonstrated an oil spill with limited materials and proved sucsessful. In the end, my hypothesis was supported by the results of the lab.

There are many comparisonsto the hunger games and  to reaity show of the common day. Ine show comparible to the hunger games is survial. In survival people go out in the wilderness and survive as long as they can before getting knocked out. In the hunger games people also try tostay alive bt instead of getting voted off they get killed. Another show that is cmparible is big brother. In big brother, The themes of everybody for them selfs and trust no one are put into full affect. In the hunger gams these themes are eminent too. these are somee shows that the hunger games could be realted to.

There are many ways that the hunger games compare to the dystopian genre. Firstly the capitol is a amzing technological advancement compared to the cities of today. Next is that the hunger games does not have a good past that involves a rebillion and alot of death. 75 years before the hunger games was created, the 13 districts rebelled against the captiol. the capitol cruhed them and now there are only 1 districts left. Here are some ways the hunger games compares to the dystopian genre

Comparisons

There are many comparisons between the hunger games and Theseus and the minotaur. These include tradition and sacrifice to a higher power. For example, it is a tradition to the districts to sacrifice a male and female team to the capitols to fight in a gory bloodbath. In theseus and the minotaur, the athenians tradition is to sacrifice 14 kids and teens to Crete because they were beaten in war.  The other similarity is that they are sacrificing the kids and teens to a higher power. In the hunger games, the capitol beat the districts in the revolution and as a sign to remember these awful times the capitol created the hunger games. In theseus and the minotaur, the reason why the Athenians have to sacrifice the children to Crete is so that they do not get attacked again.

Contrast

There are some differences between the hunger games and theseus and the minotaur. One difference is the main characters motive.   In the hunger games, katnisses motive is to protect prim from entering in the hunger games while theseuses takes a more violent otive and wants to kill the minotaur

For my snippet I choose the line " And sings the tune without words." I chose this snippet because it reminds me of the mocking jay and how they can not speak, but they can repeat melodies. Katniss used them to keep her alive because they allowed her to communicate with rue.

I think the poem means that hope can keep you alive and going no matter how hard the challenges get. This poem makes me think this because in the last stanza it says that " Ive heard in the chilliest of lands and on the strangest sea but yet, never, in eternity, it asked a crumb of me. " This symbolizes that hope is plentiful and can get you through even the toughest challenges of life.

There are many comparisons between the  lottery and the hunger games. The most outstanding comparison between these two stories is that both of the two stories do sacrafices because of tradition. In the hunger games, they sacrafice a teen from each distrit to fight in the hunger games to portect their district from the capitol attaccking them. Meanwhile in the lottery, The tradition to hold the lottery exists because they think by sacraficing someone it will give them good harvest for the rest of the year. This a comparison between the hunge

There are some connections that i have of the dystopian world in the hunger games to the giver. Firstly both the world have had a bad history or past involving war leading to the current time (like the revolution in panam). Both books also have good protagonists such as katniss and jonah who feel obliged to save this community from the state its currently at. These are some dystopian features found in the giver and the hunger games
